The filters are high quality, the price is excellent and shipping was extremely fast. The convenience of having these filters on a subscription plan is ingenious. Q: will this restrict the air flow and affect the heating and/or air-conditioning efficiency? Is there a trade off? What would you recommend for a new system? Thank You

A: Our Lennox HVAC is 11 years old. For the first 9+/- years of its life we installed filters that we purchased at a local store, but we were not pleased with the quality of the filters. I decided to search the internet for a better filter and found AFB filters MADE IN THE USA (an additional plus). I ordered a package of six (6) of the AFB Gold MERV 11 and a package of six (6) of the AFB Platinum MERV 13. These filters are far superior to the filters we were using. Up to the present time, we have been using AFB Gold MERV 11 and we are very pleased with its efficiency to absorb particulate matter in our HVAC system throughout the house.
To answer your question, it is my guess that because of the high efficiency of the AFB MERV 11 filters there may be a slight trade off between the efficiency of the filters and restriction of air flow, but as far as I'm concerned, the indoor air quality is superior. I believe the AFB Platinum MERV 13 filter was designed for hospital use which might not be necessary in the home. We plan to use MERV 13 the next time we change the filter, which is every three (3) months.
I wish I could be more helpful, but until we use the MERV 13 Platinum we don't really know how it will restrict the air flow.
